Theresa "Terry" Ann Tonina

We sadly announce the passing of Theresa (Terry) Ann Tonina, a loving mother, a dedicated grandmother, local business owner, and active and generous community member.  Terry was born to Samuel and Frances Alagna of New Britain in June 1944 and graduated from Pulaski High School.  Terry will be missed by her children Norm and wife Carin, Tara Profitt and husband Matt, and Todd and his long-term partner Roberta Lejeune, along with her grandsons Andre Profitt and his fiancé Barbara Guimarães, Jack and Frank Tonina, and great-grandson Bennett Profitt, all who referred to her as Grandma Claus based on her love for Christmas.  Terry also leaves behind a beloved sister Katherine Micacci, sister-in-law Claire Morin, six wonderful nieces, and scores of friends.  She was predeceased by her husband Dennis Lyga

Terry bequeaths a legacy of care for those in need, unbounded generosity, faith, and a commitment to her community that she has lived, worked, and very actively volunteered in for the last 60 years.  She held court for the last 38 years at Rich’s Citgo sharing coffee, doughnuts, pizza, fresh vegetables in the summer, and feisty points of view common to her Sicilian roots.  Through the years, Terry volunteered in many organizations including St. Paul’s Church, St, Paul’s School, St. Paul’s Parish Council, and Berlin Little League, often serving in leadership positions.  In recent years, Terry was active as a parishioner at St. Paul’s Church and a member of the Berlin Republican Town Committee.  The family would like to thank our relatives and Terry’s friends, in addition to the Civita Cheshire nurses, aides, social workers, physical and occupational therapists, and APRN’s who cared for Terry with her comfort and well-being in mind.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Friday, December 19, 2025, in St. Paul’s Church, 467 Alling St., Kensington.  There will be no calling hours.  In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to St. Paul’s Church in Terry’s name.  Berlin Memorial Funeral Home, 96 Main St., Kensington is entrusted with Terry’s arrangements. www.BerlinMemorialFuneralHome.com
