Richard (Dick) Lawrence Owen, 91, of Kensington, husband of the late Virginia (Anderson) Owen, passed away on June 30, 2014 with his loving family by his side.
Born in Newark N.J., a son of the late Herbert Alton and Hortense (Murch) Owen, Dick was a graduate of Leomia High School, Captain of football, Pres. Athletic Association, He was in the v-12 Marine program at Colgate and served active duty from 1942 – 1946 and again in 1950 -52. He spent time at Parris Island, Camp LeJeune, Quantico and the San Diego Sea School. Dick was aboard the USS Cabot and USS St Paul with the 2nd Marine Division 1950-52. He loved tennis, golf, fishing, boating, hunting, photography, football, hunting, the Boston Red Sox and the UConn Huskies.
Dick was in sales management with Montgomery Ward and then got into the tire business for himself and then with Uniroyal, U.S. Rubber and a partner in Royal Tire Service.
He is survived by a son, Richard Owen Jr. and his wife Debbie Leidermen of New Britain, a daughter Cynthia Oppelt and her husband, Tom of Wallingford, two grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his wife, Dick was predeceased by a daughter, Christy Owen, two brothers, Alton and Jack Owen and one sister, Ann Nangle.
Friends and Family are invited to call on Tuesday July 8, 2014 from 5 – 8 pm. at the Berlin Memorial Funeral Home, 96 Main Street, Kensington, CT.
Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday July 9, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church, 114 North Main Street, Wallingford, CT 06492
