Raymond J. Prey, 89, of Kensington passed away on Thursday, November 14, 2019. Born July 18, 1930 in New Britain, he was a son of the late Louis J. and Mary (Padelli) Prey.
Ray was a graduate of New Britain High School (1949) and a talented basketball player. He was a member of the 1948-49 high school team that won the state championship and was one of two players chosen to be placed on the All-New England team. He worked at Stanley Tools as a purchasing agent for many years before retiring. Ray was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Army.
Ray loved to travel and visited 15 European countries over the course of 25 years. He also enjoyed spending summers at his family cottage at Knollwood Beach in Old Saybrook. He was a lifelong NY Yankees fan and frequently went to New Britain Rock Cats games.
Ray was a devoted, loving son and brother, a wonderful uncle and a kind and gentle man who always put others before himself.
He is survived by a sister Marjorie C. Prey of Kensington and a brother Robert L. Prey of Kissimmee, FL, a very dear niece Cynthia Roberts-Diaz and many loving nieces and nephews.
Besides his mother and father, Raymond was predeceased by four sisters: Isabel M. Prey, Eleanor P. Higgins, Barbara P. Roberts and Louise P. Lindgren, one brother: Harry L. Prey and a niece, Sharon L. Oliva.
Everyone is invited to go directly to St. Paul Church, Kensington at 11:30 am on Thursday, November 21, 2019 for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, New Britain.
