She was born in Salisbury, Conn., on March 11, 1933, the daughter of the late Adelino and Lena (Genito) Ballester. Her older sister Adeline Kimble predeceased her.
Mary was raised in Lakeville and Plainville, CT where she met and married her husband, Fred Mengual in 1953. Fred passed away in 2019. She was a stay-at-home mom until her last child went off to school. She then worked for the former New Britain Bank & Trust as a bank teller, safety deposit box clerk, and telephone operator.
One of her greatest joys was spending time with her husband, Fred; children, John Mengual (wife Mary), Susan Oliver (husband John), and Laurie Menard, who predeceased her; her grandchildren, John Mengual, Missy Bernadel (Fedner), Kim Sims (Charles), Michael Oliver (Caitlin), Matthew Oliver (Ashley), and Louis Menard; and her great grandchildren, Ben Mengual, Isla and Morris Oliver, Matthew Oliver, Jr., and Maya and Alexandra Bernadel.
Mary liked to travel, taking trips throughout the US and Spain. At home her gardens were the envy of the neighborhood! Mary also enjoyed knitting, quilting, and cross stitching. She will always be remembered as being a kind and selfless person.
The family would like to thank her beloved aide and companion, Alex and Nancy Hackbarth of Simply Home Solutions for their kind and loving care of Mary.
