Maria (Fartely) Schmidt

Maria (Fartely) Schmidt, 92, of Kensington, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, March 11, 2025 at UConn John Dempsey Hospital.  She was the loving wife of the late Karl Schmidt.

Maria was born in Gottschee, Yugoslavia, December 6, 1932, a daughter of the late Stefan Fartely and Katharina Birnbaum and had been a Kensington resident for many years.  She had been employed by Stanley Works until her retirement.

She is survived by her son Karl Schmidt Jr. and his wife Susan; her daughter Brigitta Ciammella and her companion Alan Schlein; 8 grandchildren Kelly (Bernie) Meier, Michael (Rachel) Ciammella, Matthew Ciammella, Madison Schlein, Max Schlein, Katrina (Elliott) Laden, Rebecca (Tony) Valentine, and Michael (Felicia) Clark; 7 great grandchildren Brayden, Nathan, Aubrey, Michael, Alexa, Gabriella and Viviana.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial, Saturday, March 22, 2025 at 10 a.m. in St. Paul Church, 485 Alling St., Berlin.  Interment will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, New Britain.  Arrangements have been entrusted to the Berlin Memorial Funeral Home, 96 Main St., Kensington.  www.BerlinMemorialFuneralHome.com
