John F. Sampl Jr., 99, of Kensington, passed away peacefully, Monday, September 4, 2023.
John was born in New Britain, October 11, 1923, the oldest son of the late John Sampl Sr. and Mary (Schardle) Sampl of Kensington. Upon serving his country with the U.S. Navy during WWII, he settled in Kensington with his wife Lillian, who predeceased him. John worked for Tilcon Tomasso for 40 years as an operating engineer. He enjoyed traveling, the outdoors, hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, and spending time with his family and grand dog “Shelby” watching the Yankees. The highlight of his long life occurred this year, as John was honored at the Memorial Day Parade in his hometown and received his high school diploma.
John leaves behind his longtime companion Phyllis Predzimirski; his son David Sampl, and his daughter Linda Dovitski. He is also survived by nephews; and nieces, Bob (Maureen) Sampl, Andy (Diane) Coppa, Lester (Darlene) Kurpiewski, and Carol Coppa. He is predeceased by his son-in-law John Dovitski; his brother and sister-in-law Harry (Emily) Sampl; his sisters and their husbands Margaret (Louis) Coppa, Angela (John) Kurpiewski. He is also predeceased by his nieces; and nephews Dick and Eileen Sampl, Larry Kurpiewski and Giorgio Ottaviani
Friends and family may call at the Berlin Memorial Funeral Home, Friday, September 8, 2023 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday morning at the Berlin Memorial Funeral Home.
