Hannelore Frieda (Papencordt) Schmidt of Windham, N.H., passed away on January 21, 2014 surrounded by her family.

     Originally from Castrop Rauxel, West Germany, Hannelore moved to Connecticut with her late husband, Klaus and raised their son Peter. She worked for many years at the Griswold Elementary School in Berlin, Ct., and was active in her community. She was a member of the Austrian Donau Club, Berlin Congregational Church, and the Berlin Historical Society. Cooking, traveling, and crafts were her hobbies but spending time with her family was what she cherished most.

     Hannelore was a devoted grandmother and loved her two grandchildren with all of her heart. She could be found along the sidelines of a soccer field or swim meet, or celebrating a special occasion with family.

     She is survived by her only son, Peter Schmidt of Windham, N.H. and his wife, Denise; and two grandchildren, Katherine and Stephen of Windham, N.H. She will be sadly missed by her family but will remain in their hearts forever.

  Friends and family are invited to call at the Berlin Memorial Funeral Home 96 Main Street Kensington, CT on Saturday January 25, 2014 from 10 a.m. till time of service at 12 Noon.
