Hannah “Anna” McCaig Obituary

Hannah “Anna” (Speirs) McCaig of Kensington, beloved wife of Hugh McCaig, passed away unexpectedly at her home on Friday March 19, 2021 only nine days before her 78th birthday.  She was the daughter of the late James Speirs and Margaret (Smith) Speirs of Anniesland (Glasgow) Scotland where she was born and raised with her pre-deceased siblings James, Margaret, and Marie.  She also had many nieces, nephews, and cousins in the US and overseas in Scotland, England, and Australia.Anna moved ‘across the pond’ to the USA in 1965 with her husband Hugh (Shug) where they started a new life and family in Connecticut.  She recently celebrated 56 years of wedding bliss with her beloved husband only a few weeks prior to her passing.   She is survived by her loving daughters Christine Sawyer and her husband James Sawyer of Newington and Catherine Murphy and her husband Don Murphy of Berlin.   Anna loved being a grandmother and adored her five grandchildren Landon, Holden, & Camden Murphy and Tina & Eric Sawyer.     Anna was a caring and empathetic individual who enjoyed helping others. She worked in the health field as a Home Health Aide with the New Britain and Berlin Visiting Nurses Associations and later as a medical coder at Bradley Memorial Hospital for 20 years before retiring in 2001.  She also enjoyed going on cruises with her husband to a variety of tropical islands, swimming and socializing at the local pool she frequented, sunbathing at her own beautiful pool, reading novels, knitting and crocheting, playing bingo, taking care of her plants, watching her husband play golf, and was an active parishioner at St. Paul Church in Kensington. Calling hours for Hannah will be on Thursday, March 25, 2021 from 10 to 11 AM at the Berlin Memorial Funeral Home, 96 Main St., Kensington, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 AM at St. Paul Church 485 Alling Street, Kensington.  Burial will follow in Maple Cemetery, Berlin.  ALL CDC GUIDELINES SHOULD BE FOLLOWED
