Diane Patricia (Mockler) Barbata, 78, of Delray Beach, Florida, passed away on December 31, 2024, at her daughter’s home in Kensington, CT. Diane was born September 23, 1946 in Milford, Connecticut, the daughter of the late Lawrence Mockler and Ruth (Held) Mockler. Diane graduated from Milford High School in 1964, then went on to Sacred Heart to pursue her education. Diane is a long time resident of Charlotte County, FL having lived in Englewood, Pt. Charlotte and Punta Gorda. Over the course of her adult life she started and managed several local businesses and later enjoyed the social aspect of her job as dining room manager at the Isles Yacht Club in Punta Gorda, FL. Diane loved to decorate, organize and host events at the country club where she was loved and adored by many members and guests.
What made Diane so special was her love to be around others, her sense of humor, and her willingness to help others through donating items, providing emotional support and finding resources. Diane had a very gregarious and outgoing personality. She seemed to be the life of the party wherever she was. Some of her favorite pastimes were socializing with others, having dinner parties, and of course shopping, especially for bargains. She also loved to travel, whether it was to a big city or simply on a cruise, but her favorite places were quaint towns, like Woodstock, VT., where she would often visit.
Diane is survived by her daughter, Deborah Peate of Kensington, CT. and her lifetime partner Melissa Ming. Her son, Thomas (Rich) Peate Jr., of Delray Beach, FL, her brother Lawrence Mockler Jr. of Vero Beach, FL and her grandson, Brandon Peate of Kensington, CT. She is also leaving behind several cousins that she was very close with growing up and two nieces from her younger brother, as well as some very close friends. Preceding Diane in death was her husband Joseph Barbata of Punta Gorda, FL and her younger brother Kenneth Mockler of Vero Beach, FL.
There will be no services planned for Diane. She just wanted to be remembered for making people happy.
