Barbara L. (Beausoleil) Lewis

Barbara L. (Beausoleil) Lewis, 83, of Kensington, passed away at home on June 6, 2026.

Barbara was born in Waterbury, CT on October 20, 1942 to Louis and Anna (Stemmer) Beausoleil. She graduated from Waterbury Catholic High School in 1960.  She met her future husband, Charles, on a blind date. The two were married in 1964 and were each other’s best friend and partner until his passing in 2018. For the last seven years of their marriage, Barbara demonstrated her devotion to her husband as caregiver during his extended illness.

Barbara was a lifelong learner and avid reader. She enrolled in the University of St. Joseph when she was in her 50's and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in American Studies. Before and after taking time to raise her family, Barbara was a librarian at the Silas Bronson, New Britain Public, and Berlin-Peck Libraries. She retired as the Director of the Berlin Free Library. During her retirement, she volunteered as a docent at the New Britain Museum of American Art.

Barbara leaves two sons and their spouses, Karl and Kathryn Lewis of Kensington and Daniel and Jessica Lewis of Newington. She also leaves four grandchildren, Charles, Timothy, Thomas and Madeline Lewis. In addition, she leaves a sister, Susan Riccio and a brother and sister-in-law, Louis and Judy Beausoleil. She will be missed by a close friend since high school, Rosemary Wojcik, who was a great comfort to Barbara during her illness.

Barbara’s family wishes to thank Anna Bartosiewicz who was Barbara’s caregiver for 18 months. She ensured our mother, sister and grandmother could remain in her home, as was her wish.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial, Friday, June 12, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. in St. Paul’s Church, 485 Alling St., Kensington. There will be no calling hours.  Interment will follow in Maple Cemetery, Berlin.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the New Britain Museum of American Art, 56 Lexington Street, New Britain, CT 06052.  Berlin Memorial Funeral Home, 96 Main St., Kensington is entrusted with Barbara’s arrangements.
