Allen Marcelle Mitchell passed from this world to a better place on January 23rd, 2014.

Allen was born in Hartford, CT, grew up in Middletown, CT., and lived most of his adult life in Groton, CT. In his youth, he was a great singer in the style of his idol, Frank Sinatra, and sang at nightclubs and theaters on the East and West coasts. He was also an accomplished painter.

Allen served in and was honorably discharged from the United States Navy. For many years, Allen was an expert hairstylist and owner/operator of Marcel Coiffures salon in Groton and before that owned the salon at the old Griswold Hotel in Groton.

Allen is survived by his son, Adam Mitchell, of New London; his daughter, Christian Livermore, of Scotland, UK; a sister, Marilyn Rudman, of Rocky Hill; his ex-wife, Kathleen Mitchell, of New London; his nephew, Edward Rudman, of Rocky Hill; his niece, Vanessa McGuire, of Enfield, CT; his grandchildren,  Boaz Charles Vega-Mitchell and Priscilla Ruth Vega-Mitchell and great-granddaughter, Isabella. He was predeceased by his parents, Elizabeth Summers of England and Charles Mitchell of Greece.

A service to honor Allen’s memory, followed by burial, will be held Wednesday, January 29th at 12:30 PM at the Connecticut State Veteran’s Cemetery, 317 Bow Lane, Middletown.
