Marie M. (Lawlor) Gurrieri (83) passed peacefully away at The Pilgrim Manor Nursing Facility in Cromwell, CT on September 9, 2016.

Marie was was married for 47 years, predeceased by her loving husband Ernest.  She is survived by her 4 children and their spouses; Ernest and Mary (DiPietro) Gurrieri, Robert and Cynthia (Chesworth) Gurrieri, Deborah (Gurrieri) and George Maloney, Thomas and Renee (Sanchez) Gurrieri,  9 Grandchildren; Nicholas, Michael, Casey, Cameron, Sammy, Anthony, Alex, Michele, Sarah and Great Granddaughter Fiona Marie.  She is also survived by her brothers and sister-in-laws, Joe and Joan Gurrieri, Richard and Beverly Gurrieri both of Rocky Hill, CT.

Marie was born in St. John’s Newfoundland (NF), eldest daughter of the late Augustus and Marion (Lake) Lawlor.  Marie was predeceased by her brother Gus Lawlor and sister Joan (Lawlor) Kavanaugh, and leaves to mourn Bill and Dorothy Lawlor, John and Louise Lawlor and Joseph Lawlor.  Marie leaves behind many nieces and nephews both in the USA and NF, all of whom she loved dearly.

Marie had many relatives she was close to especially Clare (Lawlor) Furtado and Bernadette (Fitzpatrick) White.  At age 25, Marie left NF with Clare and Bern and made a wonderful life for herself in CT.  Marie never forgot her roots on “The Rock” and maintained close relationships with her siblings and their families.  She instilled the love of NF to her children and the memories of a recent family reunion in NF hold a special place in everyone’s heart.

Marie was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend.  Her home on Marshall Rd., Rocky Hill, was always open to family and friends.  Marie was happiest surrounded by her many grandchildren, loved to cook and was the perfect hostess.  She made entertaining look easy and there was always room for “one more at the kitchen table”.  Her home in Rocky Hill was an anchor for our family and our memories spent there are something that will be treasured and deeply missed.

We would like to express our deepest gratitude for the loving care she received from the staff at Pilgrim Manor.  Over the years, they have become part of our family and we can never thank them enough for the loving care they have given her during her final years.

Calling hours are Tuesday, 4-7 p.m. at the Berlin Memorial Funeral Home, 96 Main St., Berlin, CT.  Everyone is invited to go directly to St. James Church 76 Elm St., Rocky Hill for a Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, 9:30 a.m. Burial will follow at Center Cemetery in Rocky Hill.
