Grace (Nesta) Niedermayer, 98 of St. Lucian’s Residence, New Britain, and formerly of East Berlin, died Thursday, April 13, 2017 at The Hospital of Central CT, New Britain campus.  She was the beloved wife of the late Frank J. Niedermayer for seventy-two years.  Born on March 24, 1919 in Lioni, Italy to the late Rocco and Gaetana Nesta, Grace emigrated to America in November of 1937.  She worked in various garment shops in New Britain and learned English quickly.  She and Frank were married on October 22, 1943.  After nine years in New Britain, they moved to East Berlin in 1952.  They resided there for fifty-nine years, where they raised their four children.  Grace was a great cook and baker and among the family’s favorites were her homemade chicken soup, pasta, apple pie and chocolate chip cookies.  She also loved to tend her vegetable and flower gardens.  Everything Grace grew flourished. Crocheting was another hobby she enjoyed and she made beautiful blankets, hats and scarves for her family.

Grace leaves to mourn her passing her children, Frances (Arthur) Boyle of Newington, Nancy (Louis) Urso of Southington, and Joseph Niedermayer and his partner, Rhonda Cassin of Bristol. She is also survived by her loving brother, Alfonso Nesta of Kensington, a sister, Lina in Italy, eight cherished grandchildren and ten adored great-children, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.  In addition to her parents and loving spouse, Frank, Grace was pre-deceased by her beloved daughter, Maryann and son-in-law Lincoln Schafer, her brother Anthony Nesta and her sister, Teresa in Italy.  Grace was a devout Catholic and good Christian which was evident throughout her lifetime.  The family wishes to thank the staff on C-5 at THOCC and her hospice nurse, Mary Jo for their care and compassion.  Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at Berlin Memorial Funeral Home, 96 Main Street, Kensington, CT, at 10:30 a.m. Friends and family may call at the funeral home from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m.  Burial at Wilcox Cemetery in East Berlin will immediately follow the services.  In lieu of flowers, donations in Grace’s memory may be made to St. Lucian’s Residence, 532 Burritt St., New Britain, CT  06053.  To share memories of Grace with the family, please visit www.berlinmemorialfuneralhome.com
