Barbara Dolores (Matejek) Pavano, of Berlin, passed away on Sunday, February 19, 2017, at the Hospital of Central Connecticut, New Britain, following a long illness.  She was the wife of the late James G. Pavano to whom she was married for 53 years before his death in 2010 in Florida.

Born in New Britain, March 2, 1935, a daughter of the late John and Hedwig (Kierwiak) Matejek, Barbara was a Berlin resident most of her life.  She was a graduate of Sacred Heart School and Mary Immaculate Academy, (Class of 1953) both in New Britain and attended Middlesex Community College in Middletown.  Barbara was a business analyst at Aetna Life and Casualty for 15 years before her retirement.  She was a member of St. Paul’s Church in Kensington.

Barbara was a member of the Berlin Association of Special Education, C.C.A.R.C. of New Britain, Special Olympics in Berlin and the Berlin Senior Center.  She enjoyed playing cards, bingo and the many activities at the Senior Center.  She also enjoyed the music of the 60’s and 70’s.

Barbara is survived by 3 sons:  Stephen A. Pavano, Gary R. Pavano and his wife, Susann, both of Berlin and Philip L. Pavano, Sr. and his wife, Kathy, of Southington, a grandson:  Philip L. Pavano, Jr. of Southington, a brother:  Daniel Matejek and a sister-in-law:  Barbara Matejek, both of Florida, 5 step-grandchildren, Jason Krawic of Oklahoma, Jennifer McCormick of Tolland, Rachel Demaida of Granby, Danielle Civitillo of Simsbury and Jennifer Snow of Honolulu Hawaii,  9 Step-grandchildren, several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband and parents, Barbara was predeceased by a son:  Michael Pavano.

Everyone is invited to go directly to St. Paul Church, 479 Alling St., Kensington on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at 10:00 AM for a Mass of Christian Burial for Barbara.  Interment will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Burritt St., New Britain.  The Berlin Memorial Funeral Home, 96 Main St., Kensington is in charge of arrangements.
